A common explanation for the wage gap is that women are less likely to ask for raises in the work place and are less aggressive in salary negotiation, but new data suggest that this is not the case. A recent study by the Harvard Business Review suggests that, when accounting for industry and education, the rate and style women negotiate their salaries are effectively equivalent. Despite this, the study found that men were 5% more likely than women to receive the raise they requested.
