Women are often segregated into lower-paying fields (like social work and education) by years of socialization and discrimination. Female-dominated fields tend to have lower median salaries than male-dominated fields. If and when there is an influx of women in a male-dominated industry, the median salary will generally decline post influx. The opposite is true when the reverse occurs. What does this tell young girls and women everywhere? Women are not as capable and their contributions are worth less.
