Traditional economic analyses often leave out the paid and unpaid labor performed by women for the wellbeing of the domestic unit. Furthermore, economic models rely on the notion that individuals can devote constant time and energy to optimizing their financial/job lives, which is especially not the case for women and people of color. Women are often relegated to the lowest paying sectors and even within the field of economics, women with PhDs are much less likely to become tenured professors.
