While there is a great deal of female talent in STEM, factors including an exclusionary culture within many accelerators, misperceptions about the amount of trained female tech professionals, and a gender gap in venture funding and angel investments have lead to an underrepresentation of women in the fast-growing tech field. To counteract this, organizations like the Association for Women in Science are looking for easily implementable steps companies and funds can take, such as removing gendered language from company materials and assisting employees through major life events.
