After a unanimous vote from the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, Mayor Lee signed legislation into law which will stop employers from asking job candidates about their salary histories or obtaining said salary history without consent. Using salary history to set pay is a practice which keeps women, people of color, and other marginalized populations entrenched in cycles of wage discrimination.
