New Zealand Paves the Way for Gender Equality

November 6, 2017

Bloomberg // Matthew Brockett and Paul Allen

New Zealand, the first country to give women the right to vote, recently elected the world’s youngest female leader. 37-year-old Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern plans to use her position to achieve pay equity for women in the public sector hoping the private sector will learn by example. It’s great when discourse stems from abuses coming to light (i.e. Harvey Weinstein, Louis C.K., Al Franken, etc), but it’s even better when real change occurs. New Zealand is ranked 9th out of 144 countries for gender parity, but Ardern won’t stop there—and she shouldn’t.
