New Jersey Passes Most Far Reaching Equal Pay Law in Nation

April 24, 2018

NJ.com // Matt Arco

A recently passed New Jersey law makes the state among the toughest on wage inequity in the nation. The Diane B. Allen Equal Pay Act, named after a long serving state senator who fought to close the wage gap in her state, passed both houses of the state's congress nearly unanimously. It stipulates that employers will have to give evidence based on experience and  education to explain a gap in compensation of two employees in similar roles, and gives women and minorities grounds to seek damages in court worth up to six years in lost wages.
