More than 100 equal pay and wage related bills have been proposed in various legislative sessions since late last year. Each bill aims to mitigate the gender wage gap by implementing one (or more) strategies: banning differences in pay for comparable work and thus defining the parameters of comparable work, encouraging wage transparency and prohibiting retaliation against employees who openly discuss wages, and banning salary history from being required during the interview process. Several states and cities have already passed such legislation into law while others are currently pending.
