The lack of female representation in computing and technical roles continues to plague the few women who are there with sexism, harrasment, and unfriendly workplace policies. Companies with executive female leadership perform 300 percent better than those without and yet even a powerhouse like Google, which is often heralded as one of the best places to work, claims that collecting internal wage data would prove too costly and burdensome. A few more glaringly problematic statistics: only 5 percent of startups are owned by women, a mere 7 percent of partners at top 100 venture capital firms are women, and women in tech under the age of 25 earn almost 30 percent less than their male counterparts. Why are so few doing anything about the obvious gender disparities in tech?
