Black Women: Doing the Most and Getting the Least

August 4, 2017

National Women's Law Center // Kayla Patrick

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported an influx of jobs in the U.S. economy and a simultaneous low rate of unemployment. But these numbers do not tell the truth for Black communities, in which it will take 228 years to close the Black-white family wealth gap. Black women are more likely to be the breadwinners in their families but despite increased labor force participation rates, Black women are perpetually relegated to higher unemployment rates, larger wage gaps, and more poverty.
