Bringing in the New Year with a Month of Women's Leadership

January 3, 2017

On December 7th, The Boston Club held its 40th Anniversary Celebration and annual Corporate Salute at Boston's InterContinental Hotel with almost 800 members, sponsors and guests in attendance. Keynote Speaker Beth Comstock, Vice Chair of Innovation at GE, spoke enthusiastically about her experience building diverse teams, how the best minds might not be human, and how tension is critical for innovation.

"It's as simple as this: be open," Comstock said. "To ideas, to difference, to new ways. To move forward, do something new."

Before Comstock spoke, Governor Charlie Baker made a surprise appearance to declare and sign a Proclamation designating January 2017 as Women's Leadership Month in honor of The Boston Club's 40 years of advancing women's leadership. He signed the Proclamation surrounded by the Club's current president and seven past Presidents.

"[I] am proud to proclaim January to be Women's Leadership Month, recognizing [The Boston Club] & other orgs creating more inclusive workplaces," the Governor tweeted. To view the Proclamation, click here.

Club President Maureen Alphonse-Charles ended the meeting with a call to action for all attendees to do something meaningful for Women's Leadership Month.
